Vello Shutterboss Review

Vello Shutterboss camera remote timer review.

I purchased mine from B&H, the trusted source for all things photography and video.

The Vello Shutterboss wireless camera remote control timer (for Canon 3 pin ) allows for remote operation of your camera's shutter from a distance up to 250 feet.

The Vello Shutterboss remote control interval timer features:
  • 99 wireless channels to avoid interference
  • timer delay mode
  • extra long exposure capability
  • multi shot capability
  • interval timer function for

tufted-titmouseThe Vello Shutterboss remote control interval timer is useful for a variety of situations.  For example your camera can be set up near a bird feeder and the shutter can be triggered from inside the house.

The Shutterboss consists of a control display unit and a receiver unit which attaches to a camera flash hot-shoe. Once mounted, the receiver's wire attaches to a socket on the camera.

Although I have not tried the interval timer / delay feature of this yet, the remote wireless firing of the shutter worked fine.  I used it to make the close up bird photo at the left.

The ergonomics and feel of the remote are nice.  The display is easy to read and instructions are straightforward.

Construction seems fairly solid although probably not as nice as the more expensive models from camera manufacturers.

One thing to note, the shutter release button on the remote, like a camera, has a half way down position which when reached, causes the camera to focus.  The shutter is then released when the button is fully pressed.

The "feel" of the half-way position is very light on the remote, not as "nice" as the shutter button on an expensive camera.  However, there are few situations I can think of where the pre-focus is critical when using a remote.
